Egozi’s Fury

Hamas realized that the soft Israeli government is only pretending to be strong, and took full advantage of the situation.

Once more Israel has been humiliated, its power of deterrence eroded even further. “The Hamas is guilty, the Hamas will pay,” stated Binyamin Netanayhu dramatically. Once again, only empty words. Not even his few remaining followers believe him.

The cabinet ministers conducted discussions, wasting precious time and abandoning the residents of the south to Hamas rocket fire. It’s no longer a farce, this is criminal neglect.

Israeli Arabs rioted over the weekend, mainly in the north. They blocked roads with burning tires, assaulted Jewish drivers and caused heavy damage.

Pay close attention. Israeli citizens, enjoying the full services given by a modern state, use violence against Jewish citizens in support of their brothers in the west bank and Gaza. They might as well relocate.

Public Security Minister Aharonovich once again released some empty boasts. This isn’t the way to fight violence, this is how anarchy begins.

The chaos in Jerusalem reflects poorly on the police. True, there were some intensely violent riots, but they should have responded with violent force of their own. Instead there was only a token response. This allowed rioters to damage public infrastructure systems, including the light rail facilities. The official state response has to be leaving this segment of the rail in shambles. They damaged it, now they can enjoy walking. But the authorities will fix the damage until the next time. Israel deserves what it gets.

In any other state – democratic states, even – there would have been a far harsher response, with rioters quickly losing heart and returning home. In Israel, though, the main motivation is avoiding boards of inquiry. The rioters will be set free in a few days, they won’t even be fined for the damage they caused. Israel and its leaders are losing their way.

Plenty of politicians visited the bombarded southern towns over the weekend. Truly touching. The same useless cabinet ministers visited Sderot and Ashkelon for a short while, their public relations consultants making sure that their photos were taken in heroic poses. Did they really think people needed their brand of encouragement? Did they make everything alright for those who are forced to find a shelter every few minutes just to stay alive?

One more absurd scene in Israel. The state, with its incredibly powerful military, has been castrated by a group of frightened cabinet ministers.

The IDF spokesperson thinks we’re all stupid. Last week we saw an incredible sight on TV: A female soldier serving in the office of a top IDF officer received a little “gift” – she got the chance to fly a small drone usually operated by the army’s infantry units. The drone, of course, crashed seconds after taking off.

Instead of demoting the officer or discharging him, the IDF spokesperson said that the purpose of the event was to check whether female soldiers are capable of launching this type of drone. Please. We’re not actually stupid enough to fall for these stories. Another blow for the credibility of the IDF spokesperson.
