Fast Draw – Erratic Israeli Leadership

14778291_m featureIf you can point out any sensible leaders in our government, please raise your hand. Time after time the government and all its branches ruin infrastructure systems that are critical to national security. Officials make stupid, short-sighted decision without any of their superiors realizing the long-term implications.

The most recent example: A footwear factory closing down. Not just any factory: This one, Brill, manufactured footwear for the IDF. It’s being closed because the military wouldn’t renew its contract with the factory, despite favorable conditions, due to a decision made by defense ministry officials to import soldiers’ shoes from the U.S.

More examples? Here:

During the Second Lebanon War a certain type of ammunition ran out. Army officials called their supplier, panicking, but it turned out that the supplier doesn’t actually manufacture that type of ammunition ever since the army decided to import it from the U.S. A decision made three years earlier.

When the magnitude of the Carmel fires became apparent fire fighting aircraft were prepped for takeoff – when authorities realized there wasn’t enough fire-retardant material of the type used by airborne fire fighting units.

After the lauded Syrian chemical disarmament agreement authorities in Israel shut down the production of chemical protection kits. Of course, it turned out that there are plenty of chemical weapons left in Syria, and who knows when more kits will be needed.

There are more examples, but we’ll stop here.

According to comments by defense ministry officials, the ministry only wants to provide the best, healthiest shoes for Israeli soldiers.
