The larger the problem, the higher the interest in it. Today’s conference, focusing on perimeter security and protection for offshore facilities, was a resounding success. More than 800 representatives from Israel and abroad participated in the event, which took place at the Ya’akov Agam Museum in Rishon LeZion, central Israel.

Top defense industry executives, representatives from foreign companies and armed forces participated in the conference organized by iHLS.

Israeli companies presented special solutions and platforms at the conference exhibition, systems aimed at defending critical facilities and maritime infrastructure, such as natural gas drilling rigs in the Mediterranean. “It’s the first time so many security measures have been brought together like this”, said a senior defense establishment official.

“The interest this conference drew reflects the magnitude of the problem worldwide, and Israel’s leading position in the field,” said conference chairman Ofer Moldovan.

Former Navy commander Maj. Gen. (Res.) Eliezer Marom, who gave the first lecture, said that the problem is huge and complex, and that only a nation can defend offshore facilities against the large number of threats they face. “Companies operating infrastructure facilities, such as natural gas drilling rigs, can cover the immediate area around them, but countries have to be responsible for the longer ranges.”

The picture emerging from the conference lectures depicts a constantly growing, global problem, whether the threats are physical intrusions or cyber attacks.

As mentioned before, the conference and exhibition drew a lot of attention, including from local and foreign media. The Rishon LeZion municipality supported the event, with Mayor Dov Zur hosting company executives for lunch. Zur presented his guests with developments plans for the city’s new high-tech industries park, located next to major traffic routes, a train station and a naval port. A few companies have shown interest in moving to the new park.
