Fast Draw – Non-Functioning Government

But our situation is the opposite. Most of our cabinet ministers chase after every camera and microphone. For some of them the studio is almost a second home.

What does that have to do with us? Because it’s especially painful in light of the failures in other areas. By the way, almost all of these cabinet ministers like to give interviews on global affairs, such as the peace process or Iran.

No one, though, deals with crime, illegal driving in cities and on highways, or civilian home front readiness for emergencies. When it comes to those areas there’s nothing, total silence.

When someone asks the ministers about the situation they’re in charge of they spout pre-prepared answers provided by their press agents, text aimed at dealing with “tricky” situations such as nosy reporters shoving microhpones in their faces, asking poignant questions not as part of an interview.

IHLS – Israel Homeland Security

All the issues mentioned above are neglected. Internal security also means protecting us from car bombs and random shootings, from wild drivers and moped-riders who think they own the sidewalks. The police is nowhere, not even a token policeman here and there. Everybody does what they want.

The police comes into play in high-profile cases, but when it comes to our personal safety – almost nothing.

True, the police suffers from an almost criminal lack of funding, but that’s exactly why we have cabinet ministers. I never heard the Internal Security Minister complaining, or the Home Front Defense Minister. As long as they get to give radio and TV interviews everything is fine.

Something is wrong about the way our govermments functions, and I’m not just referring to the time wasted on the peace process with the Palestinians. I’m talking about the daily life of each and every Israeli citizen.
