Egozi’s Fury

Egozi’s Fury

egozi's fury featureI’m supposed to used clean language in this column. It’s not simple, the content makes me very angry but I’ll try anyway. Let’s define this new American idea – reviving the so called “peace talks” with the Palestinians – as a play on words instead of something else, but you know what I mean.

The London-based Al Hayat newspaper reported that according to Western diplomats the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is trying to solve the issues involving the Palestinians officially recognizing Israel as a Jewish state by changing the definition to “the Jewish national homeland.” In exchange the Palestinians will have to agree that the Palestinian capital will include parts of East Jerusalem, instead of East Jerusalem as a whole. According to the report the Palestinians have refused.

Please, you can’t achieve peace by using these games. Tomorrow they’ll suggest an agreement that involves recognizing the Jews’ right to live in Israel – except without breathing. Everything goes when it comes to this huge bluff called the peace talks. The fact that Israel keeps playing the game is very worrying.

A real Israeli leader would have ordered his representative back home a long time ago. Israel’s legal system has enough problems as it is, Justice Minister Tsippi Livni would have done a lot more good over here instead of wasting time with the Palestinian representatives.

Yesterday some American officials have been quoted, saying that unless Palestinian prisoners are released Mahmoud Abbas will turn to the U.N. Is this a joke? Let him go and cry to the U.N, just another bad show in New York. No one cares.

One of the U.N. organizations, the General Assembly or the Security Council (it doesn’t really matter), determined that the referrendum in Crimea is illegal. Another international joke. So they determined, Putin couldn’t care less.

Russia proved once again that it can do whatever it wants. There’s no one strong enough to actually do something substantial about it.

Earlier Washington determined that Russia’s actions in Ukraine aren’t in accordance with international law; the Kremlin didn’t budge. They understand that the world can do nothing but blabber and those who want something done just have to go ahead and do it.

The Arab League shoved the truth in Israel’s face for the millionth time, but over here everyone is blind and deaf. The important men in the white robes and the dark sunglasses said that they’ll never recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

Meanwhile Israel continues to mess around with what’s known as the peace process with the Palestinians. Another episode in this ongoing farce, starring Israel. How long can the country continue to humiliate itself so that politicians will be able to say “they started it” in the end, like little children.

The family of Captain Tal Nachman, who died in February following a friendly fire incident in the Gaza strip, announced that they’re not satisfied with the discharge of the shooting soldiers and his immediate superiors. According to them this is a series of severe failures and the punishment has to be proportional, also in order to prevent soldiers from disregarding firing procedures in the future.

I keep saying that although the IDF is a great army it has some very severe discpline issues, including disobeying orders and not following proper procedures. According to the army’s investigation the unit has not been properly briefed before the mission, and the mission itself hadn’t been properly planned and carried out.

This happens again and again. Lessons from past incidents are never implemented. You only need to pass by some army bases to see they treat discipline as more of a recommendation. Sometimes this ends tragically.

The new wave of reports concerning what’s known as the “Harpaz Affair” is disturbing and disgusting. If all that took place in the office of the former Chief of Staff, when did they have time to keep us safe? If they focused on that who exactly was in charge of running the military?

A knowledgable source once said that if the public could hear the recorded telephone calls from the office of the former Chief of Staff, “hairs would turn white in seconds.” I heard some of what happened and if I didn’t know the people involve I’d say they were hallucinating. Those phone calls just couldn’t have happened. But it looks like every line has been crossed in this affair, and every last detail has to be made public.

The fact that Israel keeps discussing the issue of prisoner release proves that our government lost it. How can Israel even discusss releasing Palestinian prisoners while they refuse to give up their demands, basically attempting to shove us all into the sea. The U.S. and its zero influence can’t really push this issue, so why even discuss it?

Someone in our government lost all shred of dignity, courage and leadership. A government that continues to discuss prisoner releases in these conditions is unfit to run the affairs of the country.

Yesterday it has been published that Israel agrees, in principle, to release 400 prisoners in exchange for the Palestinians’ agreement to prolong the negotiations. Someone lost all sense of proportion. Someone is unfit for duty if this proposal is seriously under consideration. But everything is possible with this group of ministers called “government.” None of them agree on anything and what we get in the end is one huge embarassment.

I keep going back to the issue of privatizing the military industries. This has been discussed for years now. If Prime Ministers and Defense Ministers understood how important this is the matter would have been solved ages ago, but they don’t understand and the deal is going nowhere.

Every couple of months some of my colleagues publish what the different government offices tell them, something along the lines of “the privatization of the military industries is progressing.” Nothing real is actually happening, though.

As I said, this could have been solved in one meeting, but our so called “leaders” are incapable of understanding the real importance of this move. And so a critical industry keeps on crawling along with crippling financial difficulties. I’m already preparing my statements for the inevitable board of inquiry.
