New Security Scanners for Canada’s Border Service

Smiths Detection has won a follow-on order for over $8 million to supply mobile X-ray cargo screening systems to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The systems will be installed this year at selected sites to help enhance border screening.

The HCVM Z60 NA is a high-energy scanner used to inspect trucks, other vehicles and containers for weapons, explosives and narcotics to optimize security checks at ports, airports and border crossings. It is designed to scan through up to 12 inches of steel to provide operators with high-resolution images of container contents. Up to 25 trucks per hour can be inspected at any one time.

iHLS – Israel Homeland Security

According to HS Today the model provided to the CBSA has been developed specifically for the North American market. Other variations are available including a trailer-based version.
