U.S. Company to Design Network Infrastructure for NATO Headquarters

Lockheed Martin has been selected to design the Active Network Infrastructure (ANWI) for NATO’s new headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. This contract, worth more than $100 million, includes options under which Lockheed Martin may also be contracted to maintain the NATO network for five years.

NATO’s new headquarters in Brussels will be the face and heart of NATO, setting an example of technological integration and collaboration for Member State users and Partner nations. To provide NATO’s new network infrastructure, Lockheed Martin’s team will leverage modern communications and information technologies to provide NATO staff and national delegations with innovative capabilities and support new 21st century ways of working. This includes developing an infrastructure to service over 4,500 users at the Alliance’s headquarters and support up to an additional 1,500 conference visitors. Among the items Lockheed Martin’s team will provide to NATO include four integrated security networks interoperable with other NATO nations; cross domain information assurance solutions for secure, seamless interconnectivity; a robust, modern, high availability data centre; and comprehensive unified communication and collaboration services.

For the NATO ANWI project, Lockheed Martin will build upon successes developing systems for customers with similar mission requirements to create a state-of-the-art, open infrastructure. For nearly 20 years, Lockheed Martin has upgraded some of the largest military networks in the United States, including those for the Pentagon, the Defense Information Systems Agency, U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the U.S. Air Force.
