9536507_sSyria will not get rid of its mass destruction weapons. What started yesterday as a “diplomatic victory ” is one of the biggest bluffs in history. The Russian president did not have to work hard to persuade his American counterpart to climb down the flimsy ladder.

Syria, with Russian help, will “go through the motions ” but in fact most of its huge chemical weapons arsenal will be ready for the next massacre.

The world has proved again that it’s easy for a dominant leader like Putin to set the course and pace of things. There was no correlation between the words used yesterday by some senior American figures.

Testifying before the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committee, Secretary of State John Kerry said that President Barack Obama’s preferred path through the Syrian crisis “has been and is diplomacy,” as his administration takes a “hard look” at a Russian proposal that would place Syria’s massive chemical arsenal under international monitor. “It has to be swift, it has to be real, it has to be verifiable,” Kerry said at the hearing with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey.

He said that the United Nations Security Council cannot become “a debating society,” and voiced skepticism that Russia and China would sincerely allow for the passage of a strong resolution after years of obstructing relatively weak statements merely condemning the regime of Bashar Assad.

Assad has stockpiled over 1,000 tons of chemical arms, according to French intelligence officials. Now the real show begins. In Israel there isn’t a single expert who believes that Assad will surrender his stockpiles of chemical weapons.

If nothing changes the U.S. yesterday lost its last shreds of credibility. The situation is like this – Russia and China are the only super powers and the rest that have considered themselves to be of the type, are just “look alikes.”
