The Israeli reaction to the rockets – empty words

Israel has lost what little deterrence it still had. Yesterday the Israeli Air Force did not bomb the area the rockets were launched from, again proving that Israel is more afraid of the U.S. and Europe more than the rockets themselves. The reaction should have been swift and severe. Such a retaliation should have caused any terrorist group to think ten times before launching more rockets.

But that was not done. It was embarrassing to read and hear the official reactions. According to the Israeli army an aircraft attacked a target in Lebanon during the night. Monaco would have reacted in a more powerful way. Israel with all its mighty military power was paralyzed.

Prime minister Netanyahu again used the same words, saying nothing that could actually deter the enemy. The words “the rockets were fired by a separatist organization” said it all. Their meaning – Israel does not retaliate when a small organization is involved.

The terrorists, on the other hand were very accurate. Sheikh Sirajuddin Zureiqat released a statement on twitter Thursday claiming credit for the rocket attack by the Abdullah al-Azzam Brigades, a Sunni jihadist group. “Abdullah Azzam Brigades and the Ziad al Jarah Brigades are behind the firing of the four rockets,” read the statement.

According to another tweet the rockets have a range of over 40 km. Zureiqat also took a swipe at Hezbollah, stating that “the responsibility of the Iranian party [Hezbollah] in guarding the Jews, will become a difficult task.”

The Abdullah Azzam Brigades is designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government. According to the U.S. State Department website the organization was created in 2009 and is based both in Lebanon and the Arab Peninsula. The group is led by Saleh al-Qarawi and is responsible for numerous rocket attacks against Israel.

Israel is repeating its mistakes from the Gaza region. There also the reactions were weak. Instead of a knockout, the shaking politicians behaved like ballet dancers. In the middle east the one with the big stick has the upper hand. Israel has a very big stick, but the politicians locked it away, too afraid to use it.
