The Office of Home Front Defense- a waste of money

A retired superintendent of the police force, who just last year said that this office was redundant, is now expected to become the director general of this office.

According to ynet, Home Front Defense Minister Gilad Erdan announced that retired superintendent of the police force Dan Ronen will become the director general of this office.

Just last year, Ronen wrote that the ministry was not established “for pure name recognition but to care for and protect the people but in effect hasn’t brought forth any changes.”

Dan Ronen responded: by saying that as someone who has many years of experience in the field of home front defense, he can say that it is vital to have an office to keep the home front strong. Unfortunately, he added this was not the case in the few past years. He claimed that when Minister Erdan took office, it seemed there was a significant change in the perception and function of the ministry.

With or without Ronen the office is not needed and is only a way to arrange jobs for retired army and police officers. This office has no real role in preparing the home front for worst case scenarios.

AsI wrote here, there is now a real “chain of command” when it comes to the home front and the office has no actual influence on how things are done in that context.
