Israeli technology alerts masses in emergencies
Emergencies around the world have focused attention on an Israeli technology that allows mass alerts.
The eVigilo system has been successfully operated during the recent national earthquake drill, in which emergency services faced a hypothetical scenario of 7,000 fatalities, 70,000 injured, and 170,000 that were left without a roof over their head.
Alerts and information messages are sent both on a national level as well on the municipality level. Dubbed “Turning Point 6,” the drill encompased 80 local authorities and all the Home Front battalions. Among other scenarios , the army examined ways of dealing with dangerous-substance leakage in Haifa Port following an earthquake and with mass evacuation at the beaches following a Tsunami threat.
The early warning alerts and disaster information messages are sent in multiple languages to mobile subscribers using cell broadcast technology and Smartphone push notification, complemented by alerts sent to radio and TV .
