Developing More Sensitive Noses for Explosives

SNIFFER2The explosive sniffers used in many airports in the world do not fully satisfy the high demands of the Israeli general security service.

This is driving a number of development bodies to try and improve the sniffing technology so that the reliability will meet the required standard. Outside Israel, explosives and drug sniffers are gaining popularity.

Implant Sciences Corporation recently sold its Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 desktop explosives and drugs trace detector to a major European airport. This marks the third major European airport to select the QS-B220 for aviation security within the last four months.

According to the company the unnamed customer conducted an extensive trial of the system, during which he was able to evaluate firsthand the systems’ consistent and positive identification of a broad range of explosives and drugs.

So the world security organizations understand the need for good sniffers with high rate of detection and low rate of false alarms.

Israel is using different types of sniffers and at the same time is making an effort to develop more advanced ones as the threat becomes more challenging.
